Other areas, in addition to the Honey Lake Valley, which will be impacted by the warning include Surprise Valley, eastern Lassen County, eastern Plumas County, eastern Sierra County and northern Washoe County.
Residents can expect windy conditions beginning Thanksgiving morning, with increasing winds Thursday afternoon, potentially becoming strong and damaging by Friday.
Thursday look for winds out of the southwest at 20 to 30 with gusts to 50 mph. On Friday forecasters expect sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts 55 to 70mph. Wind prone locations could see even higher gusts.
Winds could cause travel impacts for high profile vehicles in addition to turbulence, wind shear and mountain wave activity for aviation. Winds may be strong enough to cause damage and blow high profile vehicles over on Friday, especially along the Highway 395 corridor.
Fire Weather Watch
The National Weather Service in Reno has also issued a Fire Weather Watch for strong and gusty winds, which is in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening.
For a period of 4 to 8 hours NOAA expects low humidity and strong, gusty winds which can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
This watch will be dependent on how much rain and snow falls on Wednesday into Thursday morning. If widespread enough wetting rains fall, it will mitigate the fire danger.
