The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for eastern Lassen County and surrounding areas
The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, in effect through 9:00 this evening and again from 1:00 to 9:00p.m., Thursday.
Fire Weather Watches have also been issued for gusty winds and low humidity from Friday afternoon through Friday evening, and from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening.
Areas of eastern Lassen County and Northern Washoe County will experience west to southwest winds at 10-15 mph with occasional gusts around 30 mph today.
West to southwest winds are expected to increase each day through Saturday when gusts as high as 40mph are possible. Slope and ridge winds are expected to peak at 50 mph by Saturday afternoon.
Humidity will drop to between 6% and 15% for three to six hours today and four to seven hours Thursday afternoon and evening. Even longer durations of low humidity are possible Friday and Saturday.
The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fires to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
