NWS Issues High Wind Warning: Gusts Up to 70MPH Tonight!

weatherupdate

The folks at the National Weather Service office in Reno have issued a High Wind Warning which will be in effect from 1:00p.m., today until 4:00a.m., Sunday.

According to the agency winds will increase this afternoon and continue overnight into early Sunday morning.

Forecasters expect winds between 30 to 45mph with gusts up to 65 mph decreasing to 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph after midnight. Wind prone areas may gust up to 75 mph at times.

The high winds will produce strong crosswinds, especially along Highway 395 between Susanville and the Nevada border. Wind damage will be possible with these strong winds including downed trees and power lines.

The weather office says that now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash cans before winds increase and potentially blow
these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.

We’ll keep track of the incoming series of storms and keep you posted here at SusanvilleStuff and our sister-site www.lassenweathernetwork.com.
