Urgent Winter Weather Message
For areas of Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra county over 5,500 feet in elevation.
The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued an urgent winter weather advisory warning area residents of a late season storm predicted to bring snow to the eastern Sierra tonight and Saturday.
The winter weather advisory will be in effect from 8:00p.m. this Friday evening until 2:00p.m., Saturday.
Snow will begin to accumulate this evening above 5,500 feet and continue through early saturday afternoon. Snow accumulations are expected to average between 2 to 4 inches above 5,500 feet with up to 6 inches around Yuba pass.
Snow will create slick and icy roads with the worst conditions beginning Saturday morning. This includes highways 36, 44, 49 and 89.
The snow is expected to pose an inconvenience to travelers. Roads will become slick and hazardous, with snow and ice first dveloping on bridges and overpasses. Motorists should slow down and use caution.
