With plenty of upper level moisture and instability above northeastern California the National Weather Service is warning residents in our area to prepare for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Weather Advisory.
Showers and thunderstorms are beginning to develop early this afternoon with lightning detected in Mono County, along the Sierra Foothills and in the Hat Creek area. Storms will produce locally heavy rain and small hail along with lightning.
Stronger storms today could result in accumulating small hail making for slick roads this afternoon. Storms that continue to develop through the evening may also produce ponding of water and some local minor flooding.
Remember to slow down when encountering heavy rain and turn on your headlights due to rapid drops in visibility. If you are outdoors… take shelter inside if you hear thunder to avoid being struck by lightning.
