The National Weather Service office in Reno is warning area residents to expect another round of storms this weekend with the strongest storm forecast to hit Saturday night into Sunday.
While snow accumulations aren’t expected to rival those from last weekend, disruptions to travel could still be significant.
The first storm is expected to begin to impact the Sierra Friday evening with 6-12 inches of snow possible by Saturday morning. It will remain cold with low snow levels and light fluffy snow. As much as 1-2 inches could accumulate here in the valley.
Most areas will see a break in the snowfall on Saturday, although areas right along the Sierra crest may not see much of a break.
A second stronger storm is expected to impact the region late Saturday night through Sunday evening. Initial estimates are for this storm to bring additional snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 feet or more in the Sierra with another round of accumulating snow in western Nevada valleys. Best estimates for western Nevada would be 1-4 inches, but are highly dependent on how quickly the front moves through the region.
Both of these storms are expected to occur during periods of peak skier commutes over Sierra passes. So, while total snowfall accumulations seem small compared to last weekend, disruptions to
travel could be significant.
