The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties, warning residents to expect heavy snow between Friday afternoon and late Saturday night.
Forecasters say that heavy snow is possible with accumulations of up to 6 inches here in the valley. 8 to 18 inches is possible west of highway 395 above 5,000 feet.
Travel could be very difficult this weekend and weather experts say an additional storm could bring another round of heavy snow Sunday and Monday.
Now is the time to prepare an emergency kit for your home and car. If traveling consider alternate plans, remember to carry tire chains, extra food, water and clothing. Once the storm arrives, travel may be difficult or impossible for an extended period of time.
