More snow is on the way according to forecasters at the National Weather Service’s office in Reno, who have issued a Winter Storm Warning that will be in effect until early Monday.
Here in the Honey Lake Valley we can expect snow showers to continue this morning with a brief break in snow after sunrise. Heavy snow and high winds will move back in starting late morning.
Blizzard conditions with near zero visibility are expected in the higher elevations around Tahoe.
Travel will be very difficult over Sierra passes including Donner I-80, Echo US-50, Yuba CA-49, and Fredonyer CA-36. Plan double or more the typical travel times.
Strong winds could cause low visibilities and power interruptions at times. Snowfall rates of 2 inches per hour likely with near zero visibilities at times. If you must travel, this morning is probably the best or wait until daytime Monday.
Avoid travel over the Sierra this afternoon and evening if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency
kit with extra food, water and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages.
