The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for elevations above 5,000 feet until 11:00a.m. Friday, warning residents of higher elevations, above 5,000 feet, to expect heavy snow.
Additional snowfall accumulations of 2 to 7 inches are forecast for Lassen, eastern Plumas and eastern Sierra counties.
7 to 16 inches are expected above 5,500 feet west of Highway 395. Tonight, winds will be gusting as high as 45mph.
Here in the Honey Lake Valley we can expect rain during the day, transitioning to snow later tonight.
Travel could be very difficult with long delays. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commutes Thursday into Friday. Strong winds and heavy snow accumulations could damage tree limbs and produce power outages.
Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours with conditions similar to mid-winter storms. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit
with extra food, water and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages.
