The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect until 11:00 this evening.
Affected Areas include eastern Lassen County, the western Nevada Sierra Front, west central Nevada Basin and Range and northern Washoe County below 6,000 feet.
Winds are expected to be out of the southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph forecast for this afternoon.
Humidity is predicted to drop to between 8 and 15 percent for 4 to 8 hours today and the combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity, mainly in locations with dry fine fuels, grasses and shrubs.
The National Weather Service recommends that you avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
