The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds, which is in effect from 11:00 this morning until 8:00 tonight.
The Red Flag Warning is in place for Surprise Valley, eastern Lassen County and northern Washoe County.
Isolated dry thunderstorms are possible Wednesday morning in northeast California. Additional isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening for northeast California and northwestern Nevada. The peak time will be between 2:00 and 6:00p.m.
Gusty outflow winds to 50 mph possible with thunderstorms.
Weather experts warn that lightning can create new fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions.
