NWS Weather Bulletin: Several Winter Storms Expected Through Saturday

The first in a series of winter storms is moving into our region today and forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Reno are warning residents to prepare for several, increasingly more powerful systems between now and Saturday.

This first storm, according to weather experts, is on the warmer side with snow levels fluctuating from around 6,500 to 7,500 feet. As much as 4 to 6 inches of snow is possible above 7,000 feet with light accumulations down to 6,500 feet. Heavier precipitation could briefly drive snow levels down to 6,000 feet.

Wednesday morning the second part of this storm moves in with the Sierra from Tahoe south into Mono County expected to see the most rain and snow.

The main event continues to be the storm moving in Wednesday night through Thursday night. Forecasters say that 1 to 3 feet of snow are possible above 7,000 feet in the Sierra, with 6 to 12 inches elsewhere. This is likely to create major travel delays throughout the Sierra.

In northeast California, elevations above 6,000 feet could pick up 4 to 14″, with minor travel impacts possible for the higher passes along Highway 36, Highway 49 and Highway 299.

Another cold storm follows for Saturday with additional snow expected through the Sierra, northeast California and northwest Nevada. This will be the best chance to receive accumulating snow here in the Honey Lake Valley.
