Barbara Mae (Snell) Clark, of Susanville, CA passed away at her home October 17,2013 in the presence of her loving family. She was 83 years young.

She was born on May 19th, 1930 at Potter’s Maternity home in Susanville to Viola (Lowry) Snell and Les Snell. After spending her early childhood in Susanville, she and her family relocated to Sprague River, OR where they had spent many memorable years.

She attended high school at Sherman Indian School, in Riverside, CA, graduating in 1948. These years were some of her most enjoyable as she was an active member of the student council, the drama club, the cheer leading and majorette squads, as well as being a drummer in the marching band and a dorm councilor.

After graduation Barbara returned to Susanville and married Francis Aguilar and had two children. She later met and married Donald Clark in 1953, who together raised seven children and numerous grandchildren. She spent many years supporting her children’s activities as soccer and softball coach, scout leader, PTA President and Booster Club member. She was passionate about her children and grandchildren, her tribal heritage (Jamani [Mountain] Maidu, Washoe and Pit River), gardening and baking. In more recent years she proudly served on numerous Susanville Indian Rancheria boards and committees including the Election and Housing board, the ICWA and Pow Wow Committees and the Native Elder’s Circle.

Barbara is survived by husband Donald Clark, children: Richard Aguilar, Vilene (Aguilar) Fulton and Son-in Law Lance, Yvonne Redd, Casey, Donna and Fred Clark, all of Susanville, CA, 22 Grandchildren, 26 Great-Grandchildren and one Great Great-Grandchild, sister Phyllis Alvarez of Truckee, CA, and brother Sylvan “Butch” Crume Jr. of Lapine, OR. She was preceded in death by brother Herb “Sonny” Snell, sister Patricia Snell and son Kelly Clark.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Barbara in the Willow Room at the Diamond Mountain Casino, in Susanville, CA on November 30th, 2013 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.
