In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Banner Lassen Medical Center is providing free goodie bags to all women who have their annual mammogram during the month of October at the hospital. In addition to the goodie bags, women who schedule their appointments on October 18th, 19th, 25th or 26th will be treated to free refreshments.
Banner Lassen utilizes 3D Tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography. It’s a revolutionary new screening and diagnostic breast imaging tool to improve the early detection of breast cancer. During the 3D part of the exam, an x-ray arm sweeps over the breast, taking multiple images in seconds.
In addition to being a more accurate imaging technique, it offers two other significant benefits: The 3D Tomosynthesis equipment emits less radiation and requires less compression of the breast, creating less discomfort.
“The image provided by 3D mammography is unquestionably better than 2D which is why, unlike other facilities, every patient here at Banner Lassen Medical Center receives a 3D mammogram,” said Kimberly Hamelton, senior medical imaging manager at the hospital.
Hamelton said patients are not charged more for the 3D procedure, which she hopes will encourage more women to get their mammogram. “The best protection is early detection,” she said.
