One Dead in Richmond Road Officer-Involved Shooting Incident

The Lassen County Law Enforcement Interagency Investigation Team has been activated following a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early Wednesday morning in Susanville.

According to a press release issued by Susanville Interim Public Safety Chief Allen Sobol, Susanville Police Department personnel were involved in a “critical incident” at approximately 12:25 this morning. The incident took place in the 300 block of Richmond Road.

During the encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Authorities stated that law enforcement and medical personnel on the scene attempted lifesaving efforts; however, the male subject succumbed to his injuries.

“The Lassen County Law Enforcement Interagency Investigation Team has been activated to investigate this incident,” Chief Sobol stated. “Investigators are currently on scene, and the investigation is in its early stages.”

As of this morning, a significant road closure remains in effect. Richmond Road is currently closed to all traffic from Riverside Drive to Cypress Street. Residents and commuters are being urged to avoid the area while investigators continue their work.

Following standard protocol for critical incidents, the Susanville Police Department personnel involved have been placed on critical incident leave.

No further details regarding the identity of the deceased or the specific circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released. The Susanville Police Department indicated they will provide updates as new information becomes available.
