“For the six years I’ve been in the Assembly, I have been stressing the need to address wildfire prevention activities such as vegetation management. Today, for the first time, we have passed legislation that I think will make a real difference.
“SB 901 eliminates obstacles to undertake vital forest health and fire prevention projects. The new Small Timberland Owner exemption and improved Forest Fire Prevention exemption will expedite projects, reduce delays and costs, and ensure that every dollar spent on fire prevention goes farther.
“SB 901 also protects victims of the 2017 wildfires by leaving inverse condemnation intact. Going forward, if the PUC finds PG&E liable for those fires, PG&E shareholders must pay as much as possible before ratepayers pick up any costs.
“Just this year alone, 1.2 million acres of California has burned. The loss of life and property has been staggering. We’ve got to take steps to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. SB 910 is a necessary first step.”
