Phone Scam Targets Lassen County: Sheriff Warns Residents

phonescamLassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon is warning residents about a phone scam targeting our area after the Sheriff’s Department recently received an overabundance of identity theft complaints.

According to the Detective L. Gatie from the Sheriff’s Office, an individual claiming to be affiliated with the Publisher’s Clearing House is calling residents and advising that they have won a large sum of money. In order to receive that prize, said Gatie, victims are told they must send money and several ‘green dot cards’ to a specific location.

“We want to inform the public not to send any money to any organization before first checking their legitimacy,” Gatie explained. “If the public should have any questions or concerns they are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 530.257.6121.”
