The Lassen County Fairgrounds were packed with kids and their families last Saturday for what may be Susanville’s first-ever indoor Community Easter Egg Hunt. Originally planned to be held outside, the pouring rain and howling wind forced volunteers to quickly move everything inside so that the happy youngsters were still able to grab more than 12,000 candy-stuffed plastic Easter Eggs without having to brave the elements.
Everything was moved into the Industrial Building, or under the grandstands, and it turned out great! Buckets were overflowing with candy and an enjoyable time was had by all despite the inclement weather.
It’s a big event which requires a lot of volunteer help. From the volunteers who showed up last week to stuff eggs with candy, to all the nice folks who showed up to help the Easter Bunny hide eggs Saturday morning, it was certainly a group effort by a lot of people.
Special mention, of course, should be made of Susanville’s Easter Bunny, Tina Jacobs. Also, thanks to Lassen County Fair Manager Kaitlyn Downing and her Junior Fair Board, without whom the event wouldn’t be possible.
