The Susanville Fire Hall on Main Street was packed with excitement October 11th, as children of all ages visited to learn about life as a firefighter. Local heroes were on hand to demonstrate fire safety, showcase their impressive apparatus and inspire the next generation of first responders.
The atmosphere was festive, complete with a delicious barbecue cooked up by the fire department. Highlights included thrilling rides on the department’s vintage fire trucks, which ferried loads of kids through uptown with sirens blaring and lights flashing. Engaging fire safety themed games and activities ensured there was something for everyone.
The popular annual event was held as part of National Fire Prevention Week. This year, the department championed the critical theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.” This national campaign stresses the need to BUY, CHARGE, and RECYCLE these common batteries safely to prevent home fires.
