Third graders from elementary schools all over Lassen County visited uptown Susanville Friday, May 13th, for the Office of Education’s annual History Day.
The event, which ties into third grade curriculum in all of our local schools, helps teach the students history through character reenactments, exhibits and activities.
Students met up with historic characters like Dad Popcorn, Philenda Montgomery Spencer, Peter Lassen, E.V. Spencer, town founder Isaac Roop and his daughter Susan.
At the Methodist Church Carol Fontana taught old-time music to the kids and was joined by Zellamae Miles, great granddaughter of Isaac Roop.
After lunch on the lawn at Roop’s Fort the students went to the park to listen to live music, play games and have an historically good time.
