Lassen Family Services held its 13th annual Walk-A-Mile event at Susanville’s Memorial Park on Saturday, April 11th. The event drew a large crowd of community members who gathered to enjoy a beautiful spring day while showing their collective support for survivors of sexual assault and child abuse.
More than a dozen local agencies and organizations hosted resource booths spanning the length of the park, offering family-friendly activities alongside essential community information.
LFS Board member Christine Johnson opened the ceremony, which featured an invocation by Michael Beck, Chaplain at Herlong Federal Correctional Center and a performance of the National Anthem by Annie Hoffman.
Keynote speakers and guests included Susanville Mayor Mendy Schuster, CASA Manager Jennie Hoffman and Trina Fitzgerral, Deputy Director and Coordinator of the Mending Basket Wellness Resource Center for the InterTribal Council of California.
The walk itself took participants on a scenic route from the park up North Street, turning onto Weatherlow toward Main Street, before heading down to Grand Avenue and returning to Memorial Park. Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed music provided by DJ Michael Vaquera and a variety of local food.
LFS hosts this walk annually at the conclusion of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week to raise awareness and highlight the diverse support services available throughout Lassen County.
