Sun, wind, hail, thunderstorms – the annual Lassen Sportsmen’s Club Junior Fishing Derby, held Saturday on Paiute Creek in Susanville’s Memorial Park and along the Susan River had them all. Yet despite the less-than-ideal weather, Susanville’s waterways were packed with young anglers trying to snag the biggest fish.
According to the Sportsmen’s Club, 277 kids registered for the event – 72 between the ages of two and five and 205 between six and fifteen.

Roan Martinez won a Custom Rod from Elegant Iris and Men’s Den for catching the biggest fish.
15-year old Tucker Whitworth had the biggest fish in his age group won a custom rod donated by Katie Anderson
The Dieter’s Sportsmanship Award went to Jasper Brady and Daxton Langslet and the Bill Kauffman Sportsmanship Award went to Colton Lively and Johan Kampfrat.
