The Susanville Fire Department was dispatched to a residential garage fire on Plum Street in Susanville shortly after 4:00 Saturday afternoon and arrived on-scene to find the garage, and a vehicle, fully involved with vehicles and residential exposures threatened.
“Initial firefighting efforts were hampered by downed power lines in the alley behind the involved buildings,” said Fire Chief James Moore in details released Monday. “Aggressive firefighting efforts extinguished the fire in the garage and limited the damage to nearby exposures.”
According to the report damage to the structure consisted of heavy fire damage to the garage and vehicles and heat damage to the residence near the garages.
The fire extended into neighboring yards and an adjacent vacant house which was heavily damaged.
LMUD disconnected the power in a two-block radius around the fire to provide for firefighter safety. Power was restored at approximately 10:30 that evening.
There were 7 fire apparatus and 26 firefighters on scene to battle the incident and no fire fighter injuries were reported. The residents of the house were not displaced.
Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the following agencies: Susanville Police Department, Cal-Fire, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Janesville Fire Protection District, Susan River Fire District, Lake Forest Fire Protection District, U.S. Forest Service, Susanville City Public Works and LMUD.
