The Susanville Police Department today released details of an arrest made in connection with the theft of medication from a residence on Chestnut Street.
According to Lieutenant Matt Wood, officers from the Susanville Police Department responded to a residence in the 800 block of Chestnut Street on Friday, March 15th, for a reported burglary.
The reporting party said that unknown persons had been entering his mother’s residence and stealing her medication, and his girlfriend told the officers that her keys had come up missing and that one of the keys on the key ring was to the victim’s residence.
The reporting party told the officers that he had installed surveillance cameras in the residence in an attempt to catch whoever was stealing his mother’s medication. As a result of the surveillance footage, the reporting party identified 34 year-old Susanville resident Kelly Erwin as the person who had been entering his mother’s residence when nobody was home. According to the reporting party, Erwin had been a friend of the victim.
Later Friday morning investigating officers met with Erwin at the Susanville Police Department for an interview. During the interview, Erwin admitted to entering the victim’s residence and stealing the medication. Erwin was subsequently arrested for first degree burglary and booked into the Lassen County Jail. Erwin was held on $30,000 bail.
The case has been referred to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
