Officers from the Susanville Police Department responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Cornell Street this morning around 8:00, after receiving multiple reports that gunshots had been heard in the area. Upon arrival, according to details released by the department, officers learned that two male subjects were involved in an altercation that ended in gunfire before one of the subjects fled the scene towards Main Street.
“Based on the investigation and the information gathered,” explains Susanville Chief of Police Kelley Merritt, “it appears that the two subjects involved in the altercation were familiar with each other.”
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and Chief Merritt noted that the incident did not involve the Lassen High School or its students.
The Susanville Police Department is actively investigating this case and following up on any leads.
“If anyone observed or heard anything just prior to the shots fired,” said Merritt, “they are encouraged to contact the Susanville Police Department.”
