Railroad Week: Getting Ready for the Handcar Races!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOh boy, the Rails to Trails Festival is only one day away! The folks at Lassen Land and Trails Trust are busy getting ready for Saturday’s event and the historic depot on Richmond Road is abuzz with activity.

Today the crew moved the big caboose, which normally sits next to Richmond Road at the Bizz Johnson trailhead, to a location further down the tracks to clear the rails for tomorrow’s handcar races – the only competition of it’s kind in California where racers compete on side-by-side tracks.

Don’t forget you can still get in on the fun with a handcar team. Click here to download the registration form and to find out more information.
