The folks at Eagle Lake Nature Programs have sponsored a variety of presentations this summer for Eagle Lake campers and the Eagle Lake and Susanville communities. Presentations included; Eagle Lake Snakes with Dr. Amanda Sparkman; Sketching at Eagle Lake with Dave Holsey; Star Gazing with Rebecca Sundstrom; Eagle Lake Fish with Paul Divine; Eagle Lake Wildlife with Brian Ehler and two bird watching sessions led by Dr. Lew Oring.
In addition to viewing the night sky and shore birds with telescopes, participants held snakes, examined skins and skulls, and held an Eagle Lake trout. A solar system was set up in the Gallatin Beach parking lot—the sun is sure a long way from Pluto!
The last program for Summer 2015 features former Eagle Lake Forest Ranger, Bob Woods. Woods will present a slide show and talk highlighting the history of Eagle Lake – The Eagle Lake Story. Woods’ presentation begins with a brief history of Lake Lahontan, a prehistoric lake that once covered the Great Basin, including Honey and Pyramid Lakes. Eagle Lake, however, was not part of the great lake, nonetheless there are some remnants of creatures from ancient times.
Long time Susanville residents and Eagle Lake campers are excited to welcome Bob Woods the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
