Registration Open for May’s 31st Annual Paiute Meadows Trail Run

Lassen Land and Trails Trust will be teaming up with the Bizz Running Company on Saturday, May 9th, to host the 31st annual Paiute Meadows Trail Run.

Held at Susanville Ranch Park—the region’s premiere trail system—this year’s event features a distance for every level of runner, including a 50K, a 50K two-person relay, a 30K, a Half Marathon, a 4.5 Miler, and a free one-mile kid’s run.

Featuring mostly single-track trails, participants will experience breathtaking views as they traverse a variety of beautiful landscapes on the outskirts of town. According to organizers, the courses rival any true trail race in the region, offering challenging climbs, water crossings, and diverse terrain ranging from lush meadows and pine-covered forests to lava flows and wildflower-covered hillsides.

New 50K Course for 2026
Race Director Linda Powell has announced a new 50K course layout starting this year. The new route is a looped course designed to be friendlier to volunteers and staff while solving logistical access issues caused by deteriorating roads at upper aid stations.

“Loop 1 mirrors the 30K course exactly and comes back through the finish line area with the 30K finishers,” explains Powell.

“From there, 50K runners will continue past the finish line and re-enter the course, heading DOWN to Old Paul Bunyan Logging Road. 50K runners will complete a second climb up to the Helipad and back down.”

Powell warns that the new route is a challenge: “From there, they travel back up Old Paul Bunyan, mirroring the half marathon course the rest of the way. Yes, this includes a second climb up Heart Attack!”

With almost 5,000 feet of elevation gain, the 50K (31 miles) remains a grueling but rewarding test that reveals spectacular vistas of the entire Honey Lake Valley. Updated maps and cutoff times are available on the Bizz Running Company website.

Distances for Everyone

The Half Marathon: This 13.7-mile trail follows portions of the 50K course, including the final downhill thrill of the locally famous “Heart Attack Hill.” It is described as the perfect course for those not quite ready to tackle the 50K distance.

The 4.5 Miler: Considered the traditional cornerstone of all three distances, this course twists and turns through towering pines and beautiful meadows.

Kids’ Trail Race: A free one-mile race open to children twelve and under.
