A family of five, two adults and three children, were forced to flee their home on Brookwood Drive Tuesday night after their residence and its contents sustained extensive fire, heat and smoke damage.
At 10:29p.m. Tuesday the Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from the Susan River Fire Protection District and CalFire, responded to a residential structure fire at 95 Brookwood Drive in Susanville.
On arrival of the first-in engine company, heavy smoke and fire were found coming from the roof and second story of the single-family residence.
According to Battalion Chief James Moore, “Firefighters performed fire attack and ventilation operations and knocked down the fire at approximately 10:45p.m.”
Salvage and overhaul operations were also performed.
The family escaped uninjured. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
Moore said that agencies also assisting in the incident included the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, Lassen Municipal Utility District, the City of Susanville, the Red Cross and the Lassen OES.
