Richard “Rich” Allen Schuster, Sr., 72, of Susanville, California passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026. He was born on June 1, 1953 in Yreka, California.
Prior to retirement, Rich worked over 31 years at California Correctional Center (CCC) in Susanville. He was also on the Special Emergency Response Team at CCC for many years. He was a man of God. Although he was known for his racquetball talent, he enjoyed playing any sport. Rich was an outdoorsmen with hunting at the top of his list. He also liked working in the yard, serving on his church’s board and cooking.
He is survived by his wife Mendy Schuster; sons Rich Jr. (Jen), Greg and Mike (Codi) and his stepdaughter Laura; siblings Robert Schuster and Suzy Rouse; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held on February 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Susanville Community Church at 1400 Numa Road, Susanville, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Rich’s memory, to The Cynthia Lake Hospice House; 885 Marsh Avenue; Reno, Nevada.
