Riverside Drive Structure Fire Determined to be Human Caused by Investigators

A fire that heavily damaged a structure just off Riverside Drive Saturday night has been determined to be ‘human caused’ by Susanville Fire Department investigators, who also note that the structure was known to be used by transients.

Shortly before 8:00p.m., the Susanville Fire Department responded to a residential fire near the entrance of 1625 Riverside Drive, arriving to find the structure fully involved.

The first engine company on the scene reported heavy smoke and flames coming from all openings, threatening nearby houses.

“Defensive fire attack efforts were performed using hand lines surrounding the structure, and Truck 1 aerial master stream,” explains Fire Captain Robert H. Brown Jr.

“The fire was extinguished, contained to the structure of origin, and 100% mop up was performed.”

The fire originated in the basement level of the structure.

According to Captain Brown the Susanville Fire Department was assisted by the Susanville Police Department, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Cal-FIRE, Susan River Fire District and the CDCR CCC Fire Department.

Total equipment committed to the incident included two chief officers, one truck, four engines, two SPD and two LCSO units.
