According to details released by the California Highway Patrol 51 year-old Lynzie Duvaul was travelling northbound on the highway shortly before 1:00a.m. at around 55 miles an hour.
The Highway Patrol alleges that ‘due to her level of intoxication’ Duvaul allowed her vehicle to drift into the southbound lane near county road A26, directly into the path of a semi driven by 58 year-old Weed resident Fletcher White.
White attempted to take evasive action by turning to the right but was unable to avoid colliding with oncoming Honda. The left side of the truck collided with the left side of Duvaul’s vehicle. The impact caused the passenger car to travel off the east shoulder ofUS395, overturn and come to rest on its roof.
The big-rig traveled off the west shoulder of US395 where it came to rest in the dirt and sage brush.
The truck driver was able to exit the semi while Duvaul remained trapped in the vehicle until she could be extricated by fire personnel.
According to the CHP report alcohol is believed to have been a factor in this collision, which is still under investigation.
