Roseburg Oregon Woman Suffers Fatal Injuries in Highway 44 Collision

One woman was killed, and the driver of the vehicle she was in suffered major injuries, as the result of a single-vehicle collision that occurred November 22nd, near the Bogard Rest area on Highway 44.

According to details released by the Susanville office of the California Highway Patrol, a 68-year old Roseburg, Oregon resident was driving a white, 2015 Ford 3/4-ton truck just east of the rest area at around 5:30p.m., when for unknown reasons the driver veered to the left and went off the southern edge of the roadway before colliding with a small tree.

Witnesses observed the Ford truck traveling at approximately 60mph just prior to the collision.

“After striking the small tree, the vehicle struck a much larger tree that stopped the vehicle,” explains CHP Public Information Officer Bruce Thuelchassaigne.

“The passenger was not wearing her seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the vehicle sustained major injuries and was Care-Flighted to Mercy Hospital.”

In its report the CHP reminded drivers to always wear seatbelts.

Agencies assisting the CHP at the scene included Cal-FIRE, SEMSA, Westwood Fire, Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, and Caltrans.
