Ryan Randall Cochran – March 11, 2025

In Loving Memory of Ryan Randall Cochran

Ryan Randall Cochran was born on May 27, 1973, in Downey, California, and passed away on March 11, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. Ryan spent over 25 years in law enforcement, serving his community with courage, integrity, and heart. He retired as Chief of Police for the Susanville Police Department—a role he took immense pride in, not for the title, but for the people he served and led. He was the kind of leader who listened, and the kind of officer who cared. But beyond the badge, Ryan was a devoted dad, a loyal son and brother, and a friend who always knew how to bring a smile to your face.

He’s survived by his children—Kinsey, Charleigh, and Cameron—who were the absolute light of his life. He also leaves behind his father Randall, his brother Joel, sister-in-law Serena, and his nieces Paige and Amber. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Leslie, whose love helped shape the man he became.

Ryan had a big laugh and an even bigger heart. He had a sharp, often hilarious sense of humor, and he never missed a chance to crack a joke—even in the most serious moments. If you knew Ryan, you probably have a story about something he said that made you laugh until you cried. He was a true Southern California sports fan—through wins and losses, he stood by the Dodgers, the Lakers, and every LA team. His love for the Dodgers also led him to work for them early in his career. Growing up, he played just about every sport, eventually finding his stride on the football field in high school. He was also an avid outdoorsman-whether fishing or heading out on a hunting trip, that’s where he felt most at peace.

Ryan was a man of strength, kindness, and character. His impact on the world—through his work, his friendships, and his family—will never be forgotten. A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held on June 22 in Downey, California. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in remembering the remarkable life he lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Ryan’s name to a law enforcement support organization of your choice.
