Salvation Army Gets Busy for the Upcoming Holiday Season

138 bags of groceries line the shelves at the Salvation Army office thanks to the Scouting for Food program.

Our local Salvation Army office is getting ready for the holiday season with help from volunteers, local organizations and some generous businesses.

The local Boy Scouts recently held their ‘Scouting for Food’ drive and according to Susanville Salvation Army Coordinator Juanita Williams the scouts collected 138 bags of food from around Lassen County.

“If the scouts missed you,” says Williams, “please bring any food by the office Tuesday through Friday from 8:30-2:00p.m.”

Volunteers sort and stock the food collected by the scouts

The Susanville Salvation Army will be offering Senior Christmas Food Boxes this year including those who received food from the Food-4-Families program in the past.

If you are, or know of, a senior who will need a Christmas Food Box this year, please call 257-0314 and they will let you know what to bring or mail you an application.

In addition, the Salvation Army is taking Christmas Food and Angel Giving Tree Applications now. Stop by to pick one up.

Safeway and Kraft Foods are teaming up to help the Salvation Army with an in-store ‘Help Us End Hunger’ drive

Join Safeway in helping the Susanville Salvation Army feed hungry families in our community with their ‘Help Us End Hunger’ drive. During the month of November ask your cashier to add a $10 bag to your total and the Salvation Army will receive the food.

“In addition, Kraft Foods is rewarding the food pantries of the top-100 selling stores with a cash donation,” said Williams, “We were a top 100 store in 2011. Please help us earn that bonus again! Thanks for your support!”
