The body of a 70 year-old Adin man was recovered from fast-moving water in Big Valley Friday after a lengthy search by the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Cal-Fire, Intermountain Camp, Lassen County Search and Rescue and the swift-water rescue team from the Susanville City Fire Department.
On February 14th at around 10:00a.m., according to details released by Lassen County Sheriff Dean Growdon, the Sheriff’s Office received a ‘missing person’ report from the Big Valley area.
Adin resident Daran Myers had reportedly been working on a weir/dam that regulates water levels on Willow Creek.
Cal Fire, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and a crew from Intermountain Camp searched the area but were unable to locate Myers on Thursday.
On Friday a search operation was conducted by multiple agencies and, at about 1:00 p.m., the recovery team located the Myers’ body.
The cause of death is being investigated by the Lassen County Sheriff-Coroner.
Sheriff Growdon thanked the agencies that participated in the search, adding that the operation was successful due to their commitment and professionalism.
The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office also thanked the Red Barn and Big Valley Market for supplying food and beverages to the search teams.
Growdon said that this incident should serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with flooding. Click here for information about the dangers of flooding from FEMA.
