SEMSA Air, the air medical transport service of the Sierra Medical Services Alliance, has achieved a prestigious three-year accreditation status from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. This recognition is considered the national “gold standard” for excellence in medical transport, covering rigorous standards for safety, quality, and patient care.
The accreditation, which grants SEMSA Air full three-year status, affirms the program’s exceptional compliance across critical areas, including safety practices, clinical care, staff education, aviation operations, quality improvement, and program leadership. The designation formalizes SEMSA Air’s ongoing commitment to delivering the highest level of care to the communities it serves throughout Lassen County and beyond.
“Achieving CAMTS accreditation is a significant accomplishment that reflects a steadfast commitment to excellence in medical transport,” said Jan Eichel, Executive Director of CAMTS. “Accredited programs undergo regular, rigorous audits to ensure ongoing compliance and the highest level of patient care and safety.”
SEMSA Air has expanded its advanced life-saving medical transport operations in rural Northern California since 2015. Officials say the accreditation reflects the program’s dedication to upholding the highest standards in the industry.
“This accreditation is a reflection of our unwavering focus on the highest clinical excellence and safety and operational standards,” stated Alan Dobrowolski, Chief Flight Nurse for SEMSA. “It underscores the trust that patients, our health care partners, and communities place in us every day.”
Brock Boscovich, Medical Director for SEMSA, echoed the sentiment, praising the flight teams. “I am extremely proud of our team for putting forth the time and effort required to attain CAMTS accreditation,” Boscovich said.
“This process has served as an opportunity to showcase the exceptional performance of our flight crews in regard to patient care and safety. Successful CAMTS accreditation hinges on continual quality monitoring and improvement, and a drive towards ongoing excellence—exactly what our patients require of us when that call is made. This is not just another merit badge; it is the highest standard in flight medicine and demands outstanding performance in safety and patient care.”
