Shaffer Elementary School held their 2nd annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast and Tribute Assembly for all Veteran’s in the area on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. A free pancake breakfast was served to Veterans followed by a USO style show and tribute by the students of Shaffer School.
“It is very important for all of us at Shaffer School to pay tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed so that we may enjoy liberty,” said Mrs. Terri Daniels, Superintendent,Principal of Shaffer School. “The students take the tribute very seriously and all are honored to pay tribute in this way.”
Students in all grade levels TK-8, as well as all staff members, participated in the preparation and execution of the performance. This year’s tribute included student comedians, dancers, and singers. Mrs. Ernaga’s 4/5 grade class did a flag folding demonstration. Student Body President, Sean Seibt, recognized the fallen with a special dedication. The tribute concluded with all veterans being called forward and each student and staff member personally thanking them for their service. Each student of the school gave a thank you note they had personally written to a veteran.
“We plan to do this every year,” said Mrs. Daniels. “There is no greater honor for all of us than to be able to give something back to the men and women who have fought to protect our great nation. As the leader of Shaffer School, I want to make sure the students realize how important this event is and why they should never forget.”
