Sheriff Reports New Round of Email Threats Against Local Schools

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that multiple Lassen County schools and school districts again received emails Thursday evening that included threats to commit harm on school campuses. This appears to be a repeat of last week’s threats that were deemed to be a hoax by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The LCSO, Susanville Police Department, and California Highway Patrol will have increased patrol presence at campuses this morning, April 13th, while the threats are being investigated.

Local law enforcement agencies have been working with area schools and the Lassen County Office of Education.

The email information was forwarded to the cybercrime unit of the FBI. It appears that the email address used to send the threats was “spoofed” and the threats are likely a hoax.

“The safety and security of our schools and children is of the utmost importance,” explains LCSO Captain Kevin Jones, “and we take all threats to their safety very seriously.”

Anyone with information about these or other threats is encouraged to call the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office or Susanville Police Department.
