Deputies from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Susanville man Tuesday afternoon after catching him inside of an unoccupied residence in Standish attempting to remove property.
According to Sheriff’s Captain Kevin Jones, Deputies responded to the Standish residence around 3:30p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report that a possible trespass or home burglary was in progress.
A neighbor called to report seeing a male inside a residence that was known to be unoccupied by the owner.
“On their arrival,” explains Captain Jones, “deputies discovered an unlocked door to the residence. After entering, they discovered a male attempting to exit the residence.”
Captain Jones said that the male, identified a 35-year old Carl Weire, is well known by Lassen Deputies.
Weire was unable to evade Deputies and was immediately detained inside the residence.
“Investigation revealed quite a long and planned burglary of the home,” said Jones.
Deputies discovered Mr. Weire, perhaps with the aid of accomplices, had forced entry to the home through a door and actually occupied the home for more than just a day, even cooking while there.
The suspect, or suspects, collected and stacked property items in the hallway and on the deck, presumably in preparation of a swift removal of the property from the residence. This theory was confirmed when the homeowner viewed the current state of his home.
Additionally, while searching the property Deputies observed a Corvette and a lawn tractor in an outbuilding. They found battery chargers hooked up to both in attempt to start and steal the vehicles.
Unfortunately several items were taken before Mr. Weire’s arrest inside the home. When the homeowner inspected his residence, several firearms and items of value were removed prior to Deputies arrival.
Weire was arrested at the scene on multiple charges.
“We expect to find new information as we continue the investigation,” said Captain Jones. “Carl Weire has an extensive history of theft arrests and convictions in Lassen County going back several years. We are hoping his arrest and hopeful conviction will deter him from committing theft in Lassen County in the future.”
Weire was booked into the Lassen County Jail for Burglary, Conspiracy and Violation of Probation. He is currently being held on $80,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Superior Court on February 8th.
