A 35-year old Westwood resident was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder, by Lassen County Sheriff’s Deputies as they served a search warrant on a residence in Westwood Thursday afternoon.
The warrant was served as part of an investigation into an attempted murder which occurred early Saturday morning according to LCSO Operations Commander Kevin Jones. Deputies responded to Westwood after receiving a report that a man had been shot multiple times.
“Investigation of the shooting led Detectives to an area in Westwood where multiple shell casings were discovered,” explained Jones. “The male victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a Chico area hospital for treatment and has since been released.”
The Sheriff’s Office investigation revealed that the male victim and suspect were in a verbal altercation on a street in Westwood in the early morning hours of March 31st, when the suspect pulled a firearm and shot at the victim multiple times, striking him twice.
On April 5th, Detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence in Westwood for potential evidence and the suspect. Upon serving the search warrant, personnel discovered and subsequently arrested 35 year-old Westwood resident Kevin Roberts.
Several items of evidence linked to the shooting were seized as evidence pursuant to the search warrant.
Roberts was booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges of attempted murder, prohibited person in possession of a firearm and prohibited person in possession of ammunition. His bail is set at $512,500.
