Sheriff’s Office Executes Search Warrants in Missing Child Investigation

sheriffupdate4Captain Matt McFarland from the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday afternoon that on August 13th, the department’s investigators, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Barstow Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, executed search warrants at the homes of Kelly Lapan (Burdett) and Christopher Burdett, both residents of Barstow, California.

According to McFarland these search warrants were an attempt to locate 12-year old George Lapan. Lapan went missing on the evening of Sunday, August 9th, from his foster home in Janesville. The Sheriff’s Office has been conducting an extensive investigation and has been following up on investigative leads with the assistance of the FBI.

During the investigation it was determined that the juvenile was a victim of a child abduction carried out by his biological mother, Kelly Lapan (Burdett), and a yet to be identified male subject.

The Sheriff’s Office believes the child was taken to the Barstow area and is being concealed by his biological mother.

Sheriff’s Office personnel are still in the Barstow area and will continue their investigation.

Meanwhile an arrest warrant has been issued for Kelly Lapan for her role in the disappearance of the child.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 257-6121.
