On the evening of January 1st, at around 10:30, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an altercation in the North County area.
“It was reported someone was threatening to kill another at a residence in Little Valley,” explained LCSO Captain Kevin Jones in details released this afternoon. “Additionally, a male was laying on the ground outside of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.”
Deputies from Shasta and Modoc County Sheriff’s agencies responded to assist.
When Deputies arrived they discovered that a Little Valley resident, identified as 49-year old Jeffery Morehouse, had been shot multiple times. Medical personnel were on the scene and were treating Morehouse.
Another male, 21-year old Stephan Thomas, was present at the scene and was admittedly involved in the altercation.
Prior to being transported by helicopter to the nearest trauma center, Morehouse succumbed to this injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thomas was arrested on voluntary manslaughter and booked into the Lassen County Jail where he is currently being held on $100,000 bail.
A formal cause of death is pending an autopsy at the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office. The case is still under investigation and will be submitted to the Lassen County District Attorney’s office.
