Shotgun Robbery Attempt at Uptown Susanville ATM

policeupdate3An armed robbery attempt at Bank of America’s uptown Susanville branch Monday led to some scary moments for two Lake Almanor residents who found themselves at gunpoint as they tried to use the bank’s drive-up ATM machine.

According to Police Chief Tom Downing, officers from his department responded to the attempted robbery at around 8:55 Monday evening and spoke with two Lake Almanor residents who had been completing a transaction at the bank’s drive-up ATM machine when an unknown man pointed a shotgun at them and demanded money.

The shotgun-wielding man was described by authorities as being approximately 5’0” to 5’6” in height, wearing dark clothing, a mask and having a Hispanic accent.

When the suspect pointed the weapon at the victims and demanded money they responded by speeding away from the scene and calling the police.

Downing also said that a second individual was seen in the area of the ATM during the attempted robbery, and may be connected with this crime. This person is only described as wearing all dark clothing. The suspects were last seen running away from the scene.

The attempted robbery is under investigation and the police department is following up on all leads in the case. If you have information that would be helpful Downing asks that you call the Susanville Police Department at (530) 257-2171. You can remain anonymous if you wish.
