SIFC Crews Fight Rangeland Fire East of Eagleville

A lightning-sparked rangeland fire has burned an estimated 3,000 acres of high desert rangeland east of the Modoc County community of Eagleville.

The Susanville Interagency Fire Center today dispatched crews and equipment to the fire on public land managed by the U. S. Bureau of Land Management in Washoe County, Nevada.

The fire was reported at about 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5th. It is burning near a 2,000 kV power line, but the line has not been damaged. No structures are threatened.

Dubbed the Lost Fire for nearby Lost Creek, the blaze is burning tall grass, sagebrush, juniper and mountain mahogany, including habitat for greater sage grouse.

A federal incident management team will take over command of the fire Tuesday morning.

Fire officials are urging area residents to be careful with fire, and noted that fire restrictions are now in effect for public lands and national forests in northeast California. Campfires are permitted only in posted recreation sites.

Chainsaws may not be used after 1 p.m. daily.
