The Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms, Chapter 22 of Susanville, are reaching out to the community for support as they continue a meaningful initiative to honor local veterans and active-duty military personnel through the “Quilters Celebrate America” project.
On April 25th and 26th, the Susanville Veterans Memorial Building was a hub of activity as twenty-one local quilters gathered to kick off the event. The gathering was a resounding success, making significant headway toward the organization’s ambitious goal of producing 40 handmade quilts.
According to Shannon Martin of the Blue Star Moms, these quilts serve as more than just blankets; they are a “civilian award” intended to recognize the immense sacrifices made by service members and their families. While the initial event was a success, work is still ongoing, with volunteers currently assisting in the quilting and binding phases.
To see this project through to completion, the organization is looking for sponsors. Each handmade quilt requires approximately $100 in materials, including fabric, batting, and binding.
How You Can Help
The Blue Star Moms are seeking sponsors willing to contribute $100 to fund a single quilt. As a token of appreciation, sponsors will have their names included on the quilt’s permanent label, forever linking them to the veteran who receives the award.
Martin noted that any additional or extra funds received beyond the quilt costs will be used to support other vital service projects for our military members, including the creation of neck coolers and Christmas stockings.
“We sincerely appreciate the generosity of all volunteers and sponsors who have already contributed to this effort,” Martin shared. “Your support plays a vital role in helping us honor those who serve.”
