Soroptimists Work to Bring Christmas Cheer to Special Residents at Lassen Nursing and Rehabilitation

The back room of Susanville Pizza Factory was filled with ribbon, wrapping paper, and holiday spirit Wednesday, as members of the Susanville chapter of Soroptimist International gathered for their annual “Fun and Fellowship” Christmas meeting. While the gathering was a time for members to celebrate, the primary focus was on spreading joy to some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.

“As part of Susanville Soroptimist’s commitment to our community, this holiday season, we have chosen to partner with LNR and its Senior Angel Tree project,” said Soroptimist President Theresa Phillips.

A Partnership for the Holidays
Working closely with LNR Director of Marketing, Gracie Claypool, the Soroptimists identified ten residents who had tags on the facility’s Angel Tree. The goal was to ensure these seniors felt remembered and cared for during the holidays.

The club went shopping to fulfill the wish lists, providing each of the ten residents with a bundle of comfort items, including a cozy new winter outfit, warm slippers and a soft lap blanket.

During the lunch meeting at the Pizza Factory, members worked together to wrap the presents. The gifts have since been delivered to LNR, where the residents will open them on Christmas morning.

Lighting Up the Winter
In addition to the Angel Tree project, the club extended its generosity to the residents of Eskaton, Lassen Manor. Susanville Soroptimist donated ten $50 LMUD Energy Gift Cards to help residents with their energy needs during the colder months.

According to Phillips, the funds used to support these heartwarming projects come directly from the community’s support of Soroptimist fundraisers.

“The money used to fund these projects comes from our fundraising events, including selling See’s Candy and the annual Margarita Fest,” Phillips noted.
