The Susanville Fire Department is releasing details today surrounding a fire which did moderate damage to a residence in the 1000 block of South Railroad Avenue Thursday evening.
According to information provided by Fire Captain Mark Ward, the Susanville Fire Department, along with automatic aid from the Susan River Fire Protection District and Cal Fire responded to a report of smoke in a residence at around 7:20p.m., on February 19th.
On arrival of the first-in engine company heavy smoke was found coming from the second story window of a single family residence. Firefighters performed fire attack and ventilation operations and knocked down the fire. Salvage and overhaul operations were also performed.
The second story of the residence and its contents sustained moderate fire, heat, and smoke damage. One adult and four children were home at the time of the fire and safely exited the structure prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
According to the report the cause of the fire was found to be children playing with matches.
Agencies also assisting in the incident were Susanville Police Department, LMUD, Lassen OES, and SEMSA.
