CODE OF HONOR

Isn’t it amazing to look around this morning and grasp that we are ALL friends of Pop. So then it begs to be considered…why? Here are a few observations I’ve made.

He was simply the best and the finest of what being human is.

He was undeniably devoted to his family.

He gave each of us the best he had to offer.

He knew how to gently teach and lead without judgment.

Pop was humble, no pretense, no compromising of his belief system but never insisting you believe as he did.

He was one of the most complex simple men I’ve known. Simple because he was not afraid to be himself. Complex in that his ideals were lofty and came from the best of American traditions; respect, honor, kindness, providing help where needed.

He worked hard and played hard. He was wry, he teased.  It was late, the sun was setting. He reached into the back of his truck tossing firewood on the desert floor. Added fuel, lit a match, and that was our campfire. No muss, no fuss.

We were at camp…he began to walk to the lake. Without turning his head he said..” anyone coming”! People clamored to the beach to catch the first boat ride that day.

Pop, we won’t do this without you. Your kind words, your enduring love and affection will guide us the rest of our days. I may not see you in your cap and your flannel shirt, but I will forever be guided by the gifts you have left us all.

Safe journey my good and loyal friend.
