For more than four decades, the Lassen County Office of Education has maintained an incredible streak of forty-one consecutive years with zero accidents or citations on graduation night. To keep that tradition of safety alive, the LCOE is officially launching its fundraising efforts for the Sober Graduation Class of 2026.
This annual event provides every graduating senior in Lassen County the opportunity to celebrate their milestone in a safe, secure and fun environment that is offered completely free of charge.
This year’s in-person celebration is scheduled for June 5th, at Lassen High School, where doors will open at 9:30p.m. and the party will continue until 2:00a.m. The night is designed to be a high-energy experience packed with dancing, photo booths, and plenty of food and refreshments.
Students can look forward to various games and activities along with a special gift giveaway for every attendee.
The success of this program relies heavily on the legacy of local generosity. Last year’s event welcomed more than 100 seniors and, thanks to the overwhelming support of local sponsors, the LCOE distributed over $16,000 in prizes. This included the highly anticipated annual car giveaway donated by Wheels West.
To make the Class of 2026 celebration just as meaningful, organizers are currently seeking donations to ensure every student receives a commemorative gift bag featuring this year’s official Sober Graduation T-shirt and other useful items.
The LCOE is inviting local businesses, organizations, and individuals to join this community tradition by providing monetary donations, gift cards, or physical items for the student prize packages. Communications Specialist Kaitlyn Midgley noted that the event offers students a vital, substance-free environment to celebrate with their peers, a feat that is only possible through the continued commitment of community partners.
